Simmering in September!
Fall is fast approaching and the cooler weather is welcome for us all! Our farmers wrestled with high heat and gulley washing rains sweeping away their freshly planted seeds. Many of them planted more than twice their fall crops. Talking with farmers makes me so grateful for their fine produce. As I cook, I reflect on their effort and the love they have for their families, their farms, and their community. I know that sometimes I can taste the sunshine and energy of each farmer in my veggies.
Last night I spent time ins the kitchen with some gals from the office and we had a blast visiting and swapping recipes and stories. I roasted carrots, onions, squash, and even some okra with just a smidgen of butter and sea salt. Those veggies livened up the plate as it was the "nest" for grilled tilapia with roasted poblano suiza sauce. The veggies were significantly fresher than what I used to buy at the grocery stores.
Our market continues to grow and evolve so come out each Wednesday and Saturday and support our local farmers. Those fall crops are going to be awesome! As autumn approaches we will have apples from North Georgia, pumpkins and pecans. AND we will have our FIRST Farm tour on October 10th with a FULL BUFFET Lunch, band, hayrides and more! The Fresh South Market brings local and regional farm fresh produce, food items and artisan products directly to you. Come out and meet the vendors, learn cooking techniques from local chefs, and experience fresh foods like never before!
In addition to fresh vegetables and fruits, we will also have a variety of local and seasonal products including farm fresh eggs and meats, fresh baked goods, jams & jellies, herbs & spices, fresh local honey, handmade soaps and beauty products, and much more! Food demonstrations and special events will be at 10: 30 each Saturday.
